Cloud atlas gentleness os strength9/21/2023 ![]() Gentleness draws upon and reveals an inner strength that is based on love, consideration, and humility. The truth is that only the strong can be gentle. To be truly gentle requires one to be strong. These are the responses that influence others to act differently, be better, more supportive, and overall lifts them up. It may not be immediately obvious, however, as we respond with gentleness in difficult situations, we act with a restraint that helps, rather than hinders and this reveals our strength. The more we act with gentleness – exhibiting humility and grace – the better a working environment and world we create around us, for others as well as for ourselves. We have all had to adapt to difficult circumstances, and if through our behaviour we can alleviate some of the pressure being experienced by our employees, colleagues, peers, suppliers and the wider community with whom we interact, wouldn’t that be a wonderful thing? Surely, we have a duty of care to do so. When faced with challenging situations and circumstances, which it appears we will continue to experience for some little time, getting angry, being selfish or rude will only exacerbate already uncomfortable situations. In a world that is in constant flux, volatile and rather chaotic as the one in which we presently live, I say we need to draw upon the gentleness that we possess as we interact with everyone in our networks. A gentle person still speaks truth, sometimes even painful truth, but in doing so guards his tone so the truth can be well received. It is a tender, compassionate approach toward others’ weaknesses and limitations. ![]() World War II was the last war that absolutely had to be fought. Gentleness ( prautes) is a strong hand with a soft touch. That said, I appreciate Sarah (from Sarah’s Bookshelf) and her boyfriend’s grandfather for trying to keep these poems alive. I also am not a fan of war and think that in these times, we choose war as a first resort, rather than a last resort. Third, it carries with it the tone of compassion and love. It is a demonstration of concern, not anger. Second, gentleness mandates that we pause, and decide how to react. He passed it on to me to try and make more people aware of it. ![]() Brian learnt it by heart at the age of 9, and now at 82, he can still recite it. The poem blew away and was found by one of his fellow fighters. The soldier who wrote it died fighting in Dunkirk he never meant for this poem to be seen by anyone. My boyfriend’s Grandad, Brian, was told about this poem when it was found in the trenches. As Rememberance Sunday, I thought I should post something topical, something that will allow us to remember those who died, and what they fought for. ![]()
